Han Shan: Cold Mountain is a film about a Tang Dynasty poet who is a beloved influence on the writers of the Beat generation, Gary Snyder and Jack Kerouac.

Shot in the frenetic exuberance of modern China, in this film we travel with guide and translator Bill Porter up into the misty mountains of southern China to find the cliff where Han Shan lived and wrote, and from which he took his name.

Han Shan is a rollicking, tasty film filled with poetry, colorful characters, zen wisdom, and witty commentary. A film that gives us glimpses of that mysterious-- some say crazy, some say enlightened-- figure, Han Shan, who left the dusty world to become a hermit and a poet, and in so doing wrote some of the most intimate and inspired lines that speak to us today.
